Krishna Dt. , A.P.
01. Fr. John Pottankuzhiyil, C.M., Parish Priest,
Superior
Velpur parish had its beginning in the year 1928 when a few
families of Velpur were baptized by Fr. A. Testa, a P.I.M.E
Missionary on 21st November 1928. Later on many P.I.M.E
missionaries and native missionaries have strived for the
spiritual growth of the community. The present church was
built by Msgr. Jacob Kanjirthinkal, in 1991. Velpur was
raised into a Quasi-parish on the 4th December 1999 and was
entrusted to the care of the Palotine missionaries.
At present it is a full pledged parish. It was entrusted to
the care of the Vincentians (Congregation of the mission) on
30th May 2004. In the beginning the parish priest resided at
Enikepadu which about 8.5kms away from the station and went
to attend the spiritual needs of the people from there.
Later on the parish priest moved to the little presbytery in
the church compound.
The parish today has 141 catholic families. The parish is
divided into 11 family units for the better coordination.
