Short History

The Parish Church at Poovam, in the diocese of Kannur, (formerly it belonged to the undivided Calicut Diocese) was constructed by an Italian Priest, Fr. Zucole and was later entrusted to the care of Salesians. But in 1996 Bishop of Calicut handed over the parish temporarily to the Congregation of the Mission and Fr. Sebastian Kunnathoor was appointed as the first Father in-charge. At present Rev. Fr. Joseph Ponmalakunnel is the parish priest. Province also has some land and rubber plantation at Poovam.
