Short History
Mariapura is a small village in the district of Chamarajnagar , in Karnataka. The history of the village goes back to 40 years. The ancestral village of Mariapura is Doddainduvadi which is close to Kamagare. Around 40 years before due to the evangelical work of the Rev. Fr. Joseph Jaquest a few people of Doddainduvadi were converted into Christianity. And the converted ones were settled in this place and the name Mariapura was given. Then Mariapura was a forest land. Later due to the kind intervention of the Government of Karnataka, 5 acres of forest land was given to each family of Mariapura. Mariapura is surrounded by hills and forest land. The economy of the people depends on cultivation and growing cattle.

The Parish belongs to the Diocese of Mysore. It is entrusted to the Congregation for a period of 15 years. It has about 100 catholic families. Congregation has already constructed a church and a presbytery at Mariapura. Fr. Jaison Ambadan, C.M., the parish priest is on the work of a shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Miraculous Medal.

The station is around 100kms away from Mysore Railway station.
